The Great Antarctic

A barren wasteland, the highest, driest, emptiest and the coldest place on Earth. It is the edge of the world, where life thrives in seemingly inhospitable conditions. The expanse of white is unending: treacherously bright, surrounded by frigid waters. This is the bottom of the world. This is Antarctica.

Roald Amundsen's desperation, Robert Scott's scientific meticulousness and Ernest Shackleton's heroic attempt at crossing the desolate Antarctic surface on land were challenges accepted in the face of death and defeat. Stories of their hardships, camaraderie and rivalries became the stuff of legend, inspiring generations of explorers and adventurers.

South Pole was the final frontier in the 19th century, and many brave souls were buried in the frozen hell of Antarctica: none lived to tell the tale. Then Roald Amundsen, an ardent explorer of Polar Regions conquered it 1911. Amundsen was five weeks ahead of his closest rival, British Royal Navy officer Robert Falcon Scott. This victory came at a bitter cost, overshadowed by the tragic deaths of Robert Scott and team.

The Race to the South Pole and Scott-Amundsen rivalry remains an oft-cited tale of human endurance and grit.
